Road to Utopia:
Imagining Better Communities
Why Utopias?
Studying and designing utopias have many uses for schools. Many vital subjects are brought together in the process — history, geography, science and math. The reporting, discussion, drawing and mapmaking activities help to develop observation and communication skills.
A central purpose of this workbook is to support citizenship education and character building, both of which include cooperation. Adults can benefit from all these uses as well, especially if they are learning to work together, such as in town councils and neighborhood associations.
This workbook, when completed, will support:
- Integrated Thematic Learning
- Art as a Mental Discipline
- Geography and Cultural Pluralism
- Government, History & Citizenship Training
- Character Education
- Problem Solving
- Conflict Resolution
- Mental Health Group Work
- Art and the Imagination
